A wildfire that broke out early on Monday in forestland in the Athens suburb of Aghios Stefanos was quickly contained by the fire service before it could wreak significant damage or cause any injuries.

The Athens metro is turning over three new metro stations to the public on July 7.  The new stations will extend the blue line (Line 3) westward by 4 km, and they are named after the suburbs of Aghia Varvara, Koridallos and Nikea. These will raise the number of Athens metro stations on Line 3 to a total of 24.
All three stations are expected to serve some 60,000 passengers daily.
A ceremony will take place at the Nikea station at 7 pm, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Foreign Affairs EU Commissioner Josep Borrell is visiting Ankara today and tomorrow, to discuss tension in Libya, Greek-Turkish relations as well as the relations with France and Cyprus.

Greece registered nine new confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours and no fatalities, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Sunday, bringing total cases since the outbreak began to 3,519.

“According to the new epidemiological data it was decided the suspension of Serbian nationals’ entry to Greece from Monday 6 July from 06:00 until 15 July, Alternate government spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni announced on Sunday.

The ban on circulation for people hosted in reception and identification centres throughout Greece was extended to July 19.

The border between Australia’s two most populous states, Victoria and New South Wales, is to close after a spike in Covid-19 cases in Melbourne.
The outbreak in Victoria’s capital has seen hundreds of cases in the past two weeks – more than 95% of new Australian infections.
Until now, the two states had maintained open borders even when others had shut them.

Local showers are expected in Attica this afternoon. Winds will be blowing from the north at a speed of 6 on the beaufort scale.
The temperature will reach a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius.
