Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said today that his country would provide an additional 1 million doses of the British-Swedish pharmaceutical industry AstraZeneca vaccine for COVID-19 in Taiwan and Vietnam.

The Japanese diplomat added that arrangements are being made to deliver one million doses to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

According to Motegi, Tokyo will begin distributing a total of 11 million doses of vaccines to Southeast Asia, southwest Asia and the Pacific Islands, through COVAX, a mechanism coordinated by the World Health Organization, in mid-July.
